Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1444
News items should appear on project homepage
Last modified: 2017-05-20 09:42:48 UTC
The SourceCast infrastructure knows 'News' items that you can query by clicking on the news link on every projet homepage. Previously, we solved that manually by writing 'Top News: ...' in large font and bold into our XML project page. And the problem is ... We want to announce our news to anyone who visits our page. That's what 'news' are there for. But the SourceCast 'news' thingies require you to explicitly search for them (click 'news') or to login and check the bottom of 'My Start Page' page for news in your project. We really want the current news to be displayed on our project homepage, so that even people who ocassionally visit will se them right away.
Unfortunately, each project home page is a static HTML page, and the process for maintaining it is manual - and the responsibility of the project owner or his designee. This is one I will need to mark WONTFIX.
Let me try to explain Daniel's idea for an enhancement of SourceCast: There seem to be dynamic parts on the overall homepage (Summary, Category, ... ) Why not extend the header block of the generated home page content by a news section? This would look like Project Resources - Project - Summary Category License Owner(s) - News (Top 3 - if any) Item 1 Item 2 Item 3 - then static content. taken from the www CVS modul. This doesn't fit into "upgrade", but a nice feature for future versions of SourceCast.
Reassigning to support for vetting and routing.

Hi, This enhancement has been included in SourceCast 1.2.0. I am resolving later as the feature will be available when the site is upgraded to that version. Thank you Kat
As there seems to be no SC1.2 planned could you please update the Status Whiteboard accordingly?
