Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14890
Page Breaks differences between Calc and Excel of xls doc
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:15:02 UTC
The attached doc has a significant difference in Excel and Calc on the page break between Pages 1 and 2. Pages 3 and 4 are identical in Excel and Calc.

Hi Daniel, have a look at the margins. It seems that they are not correctly set.

On further investigation, this document does not contain any explicit page breaks but instead the page breaks are automatically created from the print settings. In order to ensure compatability, the Excel option of 'Fit To' in the File -> Page Setup -> Page should be set and this is imported to Calc as "Fit to Pages". See also issue 11381 and issue 14579. I will close this as invalid.

re-opening this issue. One problem I overlooked is that the margins sizes are different in Calc and Excel. The reason is that there are no margins explicitly set. Thus Excel uses the following default values: 2.5cm top/bootom margins 1.9cm left/right margins while Calc defaults to 2.0cm for top/bottom/left/right. Where no margins have been set, Calc should default the xls file to the Excel default settings. This does not fix the page breaks. The workaround on 'Fit to pages' is still necessary.
