Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15146
Cell protection can be bypassed
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
A copy / paste operation of several cells can change the contents of protected cells if the paste operation overlaps on a protected cell. Operations like this should be prohibited. By the way, cell protection does not protect the cell format, only its content (do not know if this is a bug however).
I was not able te reproduce that problem with 1.0.3 german version WIN98SE. Reporter, can you attach an example (spreadsheet) and a more detailled description how to reproduce the problem? Rainer
I received some more information from the reporter by email: This is not a calc bug. This is a writer bug. Calc does everything right, so you cannot reproduce it. However, if you do the following (sorry for the translations, I'm not sure since I use a French version): Start OpenOffice Writer In the new document, insert an array (CTRL+F12) Select 4 columns and 3 rows for instance Type 1 2 3 nothing on the first line, Type 0 5 6 nothing on the second Right click on the 6, Protect the cell Then select the first three items of the first line, Copy, Go to the first cell of the second line (wher there is 0), Past it. The 6 is replaced by 3, protection bypass. In calc, you must activate the document/sheet protection. In writer, you cannont, as soon as you protect a cell, you cannot modify it... unless you overwrite it with copy / paste. Therefore a protection check is missing in writer. Yours, CC
Now I can confirm the problem with 1.0.3 german version WIN98SE (sorry that I did not read Christian's component-entry) I reproduced as described by Christian, and the "6" was replaced by the "3", which now was "protected" (I can not delete or replace it in the cell). I do not think that this might be a feature, it is a bug. So status should be NEW (I have no rights to change status) Rainer
Created attachment 6612 [details] I created a "quicktest"
Duplicated with OOo1.1beta2 on windows 2000. Confirming. @Rainer: Have you considered joining the QA team? Jens
Reassigned to MRU
MRU->DVO: The cell protection can be bypassed by using the clipboard. Take the attachment; there select the first row and copy to clipboard. Go to cell A2, insert content from Clipboard -> protected cell has been overwritten.
