Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15472
Word document with many form inputs does not render correctly
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
I will attach a document that I received from GE Capital leasing that does not render well in OOo 1.1b2. For some reason, the spacing is off and it carries over to a second page. In MS Word 2000 and 2002, it is a single page. Interestingly, it also does not render well using the MS Word Viewer application available free from Microsoft. It also carries over to two pages using that viewer, just like it does in OOo. I checked the fonts and that doesn't seem to be an issue. Not sure what it is but I hope that someone can use this doc to improve the ms word filter. Documents like this one, distributed by GE Capital leasing, make it harder for me to push OOo out into my organization. People get docs like this all the time and when they format incorrectly it makes them ask for Microsoft.

This is due to the fact, that MS Word and OO Writer use different metrics for line and character spacings. OO uses printer metrics, MS has its own. In OO 2.0 a compatibility mode will be used, so that Word documents will look the same when opened in OO. Checked it with internal build (CWS extleadind).
"Fix" should be integrated in first OO 2.0 preview.
Checked OO 2.0 integration in 680m30.
