Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15599
OO crashed when opening a Word 2000 file
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
Hello The file attached has be produced by Word 2000 (this Word version does not include the Word97 filters). The document contains, graphics, tables and mathematical formula (written in the MS formula editor). This document can be opened also not very well in OO.1.0.1 (tables are misplaced). When opening it with OO.1.1Beta2, OO crashes. Regards Uwe Brauer

Hi Do you have JRE instaled on your machine? Which specific linux distrubuton are you using? I opened it in OOo 1.1 Beta2 installed on Mandrake Linux 9.1 with JRE 1.4.1_02 and had no problems
I opened this file just fine on OOo 1.1Beta2 on Windows XP. I didn't install OOo 1.1Beta2 with JRE, because as you know it requires a newer version of JRE, and I didn't go to the trouble of installing it. The document opens with a bunch of graphs and tables. They look inline, although I can't read the language the document is written in.

Hello I have j2re1.4.1_01, on my SuSe 7.2 machine. When I installed beta2, is seems that OO found automatically the java installation, I don't remember a possibility of not having java support. So may be I de install java and run the OO installation again, in any case the behaviour is a bug. BTW the document is in Spanish.
I checked it: I de installed java and re installed OO, then indeed the file can be opened.
Since the original reporter solved his problem by re-installing java, and other users found it worked for them, I'm closing this issue. Feel free to re-open it if you have something else to add.

I am the orginal reporter and there is a misunderstanding: I had to de install java!!! and I think the other users did not have java installed, so I still think this is a BUG. I reopened the issue, if you think my argument is wrong pls close the issue.
I also had Java installed on my Linux system and I didn't have problem opening the attached file. I have OO since release 605 on my machine and thus I think you have a special problem on your machine.
