Description valour 2003-06-15 04:19:03 UTC
From the default configuration, custom quotation marks are not working properly.
They appear to be about 4 points too big and they are incorrectly spaced. This
occurs with new documents as well as older SXW files. It is not font style or
size dependent and the only way to make it go away is to switch off the custom
quotes option in the Autotext menu.

I have tried re-downloading from a different mirror and reinstalling. I also
made sure that my entire system was up-to-date. The problem does not occur in
OO.org 1.0.3 or any other application -- this is specific to OO.org 1.1beta2.

My system is as follows:
Gentoo Linux v1.4 using 2.4.20-mmsources kernel
Problem occurs under all tested environments (KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox, Enlightenment)
Intel D845GBVL motherboard
Intel 2.53 P4 processor
512MB Apacer PC2700 CL2.5 RAM
MSI GeForce4 TI4200 64MB (using Nvidia's driver with DRI enabled)
Creative Labs SB Audigy 1394

Looks fine on my XP. What are you changing the custom quotation
marks to look like? By default replace regular quotes with custom
quotes is checked in the tools/autocorrect/options section, but the
default in tools/autocorrect/custom quotes section is that they
should look the same whether you have it turned on or off.

The settings are at the default. The screen shot I posted is the first
thing I typed after a clean install. I uninstalled all OO.org programs
from the system and then downloaded and installed 1.1beta2 and that's
what I saw. I downloaded a new copy from a different mirror and got
the same results. When I install OO.org 1.02 or 1.03 this does not happen.

When I turn off custom quotes in the autocorrect dialogue then there
are of course no custom quotes and the problem disappears -- unless of
course I turn that on again.

I'll look at it on my Linux system later tonight and see if I can get
the problem to appear. Is is possibly you have your font set to
something that is causing the problem?

I checked this on my Mandrake 9.0 using a newly installed OOo1.1Beta2,
and didn't have a problem with the default settings either. What
font is Writer using on startup? Have you tried changing it?

It doesn't matter what font I use, but there's an interesting addition
to this issue: while typing the fonts are really screwed up. If I hit
the enter key to go to the next line, the font switches to default for
the line I've just typed. I've attached a second screen shot showing
what the defualt font is after hitting enter. The second line shows
what the Avante Garde font looks like after hitting enter, and the
third line shows what Avante Garde looks like without hitting enter.
Notice that the quote appears as a question mark and that the spaces
between words do not show up. If I hit enter after line three, it will
appear exactly as line two.
