Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1609
inconsistent documentation about anonymous cvs access
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:24:38 UTC
cvs login to cvs.openoffice.org hangs forever.
I can log successfully into openoffice.org and do a cvs checkout, albeit I am using my username and password. Question: is the tunnel set up? CVS is configured so that to checkout you must have first a tunnel established. Does anoncvs function differently? If it is going in at port 2401, I doubt it. That port has been configured, I believe, so that it only pays attention to the tunnel. Try checking out wiith a tunnel established. louis

The box you should be able to checkout from without tunneling is anoncvs.openoffice.org try that. -louis
I think this issue is closed. MH: please reopen if it is not actually resolved. louis PS: again: use anoncvs.openoffice.org for non-tunnel co use cvs.openoffice.org only with tunnel for co & check-in louis
Ok, now I know more. 1. cvs.openoffice.org is for tunnel access, it's working ! 2. If you're not logged in, the help in source cast (e.g projects -> api -> source code ) says to use :pserver:guest@cvs.openoffice.org:/cvs, there is no hint to anoncvs.openoffice.org. If you try to login into cvs.openoffice.org as described the login hangs (of course).

accepted. MH: I know that there is inconsistent documentation, but thanks for pointing this egregious error out. Will change this and also instructions for ssh, as soon as I can. louis
realized I can't fix this b/c it is a servlet issue and filed a p2 issue (6233) with CollabNet internal IssueZilla. -louis
Hi, is there any possibility to checkout files from the various projects (e.g. whiteboard or lang) without the need of establishing a tunnel? Or: When (a rough estimate is enough) will this be available? I know that one can connect to anoncvs to checkout OO.o sourcecode, but one doesn't have access to the projects from there. Do you know about any other workarounds?(I myself have access to cvs using a ssh-tunnel, but the other volunteers don't) ciao Christian
Christian This isssue is being worked on internally and I have seen proof that work too--it's just not resolved yet. But soon. To co cvs files : anoncvs@anoncvs.openoffice.org the error is that "guest" is put in there. louis
Hi, but using anoncvs doesn't give me access to the project's files. If I want to checkout the whiteboard-module (just to give an example) I must use CVS via a ssh-tunnel, otherwise CVS will hang (That's how this issue was opend) I just was hoping that there would be an intermediate solution to this problem, but it seems that I have to be more patient. (And I do believe you saying that you're working on it - I didn't mean to complain, just to make this clear :-) ciao Christian
Christian, We are working on a version of this problem. Your issue seems to be different. You *should* be able to checkout, I believe, the specific files to the whiteboard doc project using anoncvs--anoncvs@anoncvs.openoffice.org\cvs and then specify the module. If it hangs, that is a different issue, and Kat may be able to help you. This current issue has more to do with updating the template so that erroneous information is not represented on it for guest users. -louis
Christian, You may checkout specific modules on the anoncvs server by placing an oo/ before the module name. For example, whiteboard would be oo/whiteboard instead of just whiteboard as on the main server. Kat
Kathy, Thanks alot for your answer. This solves all my problems. Good luck with resolving the intentional problem. ciao Christian
this has been done. closing issue. louis
louis: >this has been done. >closing issue. >louis but issue is still open, so i'll close this one now.
