Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 16138
Can't insert that text in table that I want to have (number recognition)
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:25:46 UTC
Per default number recognition is on. My locale is German, and I try to insert 08/02 in a table => no chance! Even if I use format/numbering to tell the cell the format is text, this will be overwritten when I leave the cell.
Assigned to MIB
MIB: There is an easy work-around: Switching Auto-Detection of number formats off => P4 MIB->FT: The Auto-Detection of number formats seems to detects US date formates even if a german locale is active. Bug or Feature?
I wouldn't call that fixed, just because there is a work around, which is hard to find. In Calc I can set the format to text, and everything is fine, so I consider the Writer behavior as a bug, and not as a feature.
Even when automatic number detection works as defined, we need an intuitive way to suppress it for single cells. ->OS: The user inserts his text then he open the numberformat-dialog. The default format is "Text", so he click the ok button. Does it make sense to insert a "hard" number format "Text" which would disable the automatic number recognition for this cell? Please check this. ->FME: If the automatic number detection changed the input of the user, he may use the "Undo". So far so good. Unfortunately if he leave the cell afterwards the automatic number detection changes the format again. This should be suppressed.
Please ask FT if we want a hard format and then reassign this bug to FME.
MT->FME: It would help if undo would only undo the 'text correction', but let the cursor stay in the new cell...

os->hbrinkm: The cursor should not return to the changed cell.
