Description riccardo 2003-06-28 21:45:48 UTC
Hi all, i would like to submit the Italian Localized files for the 1.1B1 and B2
version of OOo, Linux and Windows..
These are not Q&A yet, so they should go in contrib i guess
If you should need a link to get the files, these the folder where you get the
all 4 versions
http://download.it-openoffice.org/beta/

Please download in the 00.00 - 07.00 AM GMT +2 time please, as these are the
lower bandwidth use time..
Thanks,
Ricky

Hi Riccardo,
please have a look at the localized builds QA process
http://qa.openoffice.org/localized/index.html
and coordinate with the italian project.

- beta2 outdates beta1. I don't think, there is a need to
  publish beta1.
- there is already an italian build at
  http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/openoffice/contrib/rc/1.1beta2/
- please consider contributing your changes to the project.
- accessing your site results in Connection refused.

Greetings
Stefan

Ok for the B1, it makes sense to replace them with beta2.
Actually the files i ponted to are the one built by the Italian group,
i'm on of the responsible person/developer of the group.
The reasons i opened the issue where two:
First it seemed that no one was working and releasing the localized build.
It would be nice to in inform the Lang lead and managemente if someone
is working on the ricompile localization issue.
We were not aware of that, i think we all agree that duplicate work is
a waste of time for everybody, but REALLY thanks for the recompile effort.
Second, the italian builds from the IT project have IT_it dictionary
installed and selected as default. Do the ones in
http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/openoffice/contrib/rc/1.1beta2/ have the same??
The host http://download.it-openoffice.org/beta/ is up now, it was
down for maintainance , sorry... it's up now...

Hi Ricardo,
you are right, we need a better coordination of localized builds.
I would recommend to follow the releases list (releases@openoffice.org).

The builds from Sander on ftp.gwdg.de don't have italian dictionaries,
but this will change from 1.1rc on.

To reach a broader audience I would recommend to repackage the linux
installation set as "gz" even if it is a bit larger.
As soon as the gz package is ready I will download it and introduce it
to the mirrors network.

Please coordinate with the QA project to update the localized builds
status page.

Greetings
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
i repackaged the binaries in gz format.
I subscribed to releases, i erroneously thought that communications
about the localized build would fall in the announce@ as the releases
of the new versions.
Please when you put "our" builds in the mirror net, i there a way to
inform us (i.e. i'm using "us" for the IT group)
Also, if you think it would help, you can redirect "our" binaries
related issues to us (if you need a contact you can use mine, if
Davide who should read us in cc does not mind).
Last, do you think that Sander would help us putting up a small
compile/recompile network here, for the IT group? I would put the
hardware and install the software, i just need hints on what
distribution to use for linux and linuxppc, and what software to use
for Windows recompile... As you've seen actually thanks to Davide and
the others we can recompile the source, but i think that having a
common compiling platform would prevent compatibility issue or
binaries problems or strange behaviours.
I'm already working with Edward Peterlink to fully localize the Mac
X11 build, and with Erwin Tenhumberg to see if we can get to compile a
 Solaris localized build.
Thanks to all,
Ricky

Hi, I (IssueZilla) will notify you as soon as I mark this issue as closed.

It's up to you to add additional hints regarding issue tracking on the
webpages of the italian native language project.

For further questions regarding build machines and the build
environment please use dev@tools - you'll find some experienced
developers (including Sander there).

Greetings, Stefan
