Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 16442
greek letters in French corrupted through saving
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:56:16 UTC
Hello, OO.o is great, thanks a lot !!! Here is a small defect I found on both 1.0.3.1 and 1.1beta2, which is important for scientists. This happens if the French version is installed, it disappears if I add the US English package (at least on 1.1beta2, I haven't tested on 1.0.3.1). In French, greek letters are typed with accents in the formula editor, for instance %OM\'EGA (where \'E means capital E acute) When you save that under SXW, close OOo and reopen it, it has become OMEGAA (% has gone, acent has gone, additional A). Of course, as a result, OMEGAA appears in clear in the text instead of the greek letter. Suggestion : - force english spelling for greek letters in future language versions of the formula editor (ask three different French people, they'll give you three different spellings for the same greek letter if you allow accents) - fix bug. Thanks again ! Cyprien.
Cyprien, could you please check this again? This issue occurs with OO 1.0.x, but should be already fixed in OO 1.1 Beta. Also, I wonder where you got a french version of OO 1.1Beta2... Feel free, to re-open the issue, if you problem definitely occurs in 1.1beta2.
[Ooops, that was indeed not a French version of 1.1beta2, I must have mixed up with 1.0.3.1 I have on another machine, sorry]. Further testing seems to indicate that the problem occurs when the % of the greek letter is just after a space character. If there is no such (unnecessary) space character, everything is all right. This occurs when the document is viewed with a French version of 1.0.x (I tested 1.0.1 and 1.0.3.1), no matter whether the document was initially created with 1.1beta2 or 1.0.3.1 or 1.0.1 Maybe it could be possible to automatically remove unnecessary space characters when saving under 1.1 to ensure compatibility with 1.0.x ? (automatically unless the user chooses to keep spaces for some reason). Thanks for all what you do ! Cyprien.
The problem in deed is fixed with OO 1.1 Beta. OO 1.0.3 still has this and it won't be fixed there anymore. Sorry.
