Description arimicci 2003-07-05 16:51:44 UTC
The file is correctly loaded and translated, and the embedded excel table shows
as OLE object (inner values shows correctly in preview), but doubleclicking it
won't open spreadshhet for update, an error appears instead:

Error activating object:
General OLE error

I think writer trying to launch "M$ excel" application but, in my PC, M$ Office
is NOT installed.

Assigned to wordpro owner, priority change because this issue is now
blocking me to migrate my job documents to OO suite. Actual
workaround: use M$ office to extract excel table, then save table in
excel format, then load from spreadsheet and save as native OO file
type. Then open the word doc, delete embedded excel ole object and
then add the one saved before. This require a lot of time and an
installed M$ office somewhere, btw this is the only workaround I
found that works.

To get start the OO Calc started when trying to activate an MS Excel
OLE on a machine without MS Office installed, it is needed to enable
the object conversion before. This happens in
"Tools.Options.Load/Save.MS Office".
Attention: This won't work in OO 1.1 RC3. But older and newer versions
won't have the bug.
