Yes, I confirm that the RTF export filter saves embedded images externally to
the file as linked images.

I've really received several mails about this problem.

This problem is a major obstacle to use OOo in collaborative groups where some
members use MS Office (i.e., ALL groups joining more than ONE enterprise or
public body). Exchange of documents for peer revieving and writing a chapter by
each needs a common format that can be written and read both by OOo AND MS word.
MS Word is NOT such a format, 100% compatibility cannot be ensured by reverse
engineering. RTF could be, but if this issue is not solved we can excange only
documents non containing pictures.

Note 1: actually, this is a MS bug too. RTF specs provides two different ways to
insert pictures in an rtf doc, both inline and in a separate file. But MS Word
is not capable to read pictures from another file. However, it is crazy that OOo
saves rtf files with pictures just in the way that Word cannot read (while OOo
CAN read files in both formats!)

Note 2: this problem was issued on nov. 2001 (issue 2244) and closed "Wontfix"
because "Our forces are concentrated on the more important MS file formats". It
is time to reconsider it. Otherwise, we OOo advocates will never succeed in
convincing other people to use it regularly and forget MS Word AND Windows.

Thank you.

verified.

Let us know in wich release the fix will be available.

Please lift this issue up to a higher priority. This is important because,
specially in the german speaking area of europe if usual to use rtf-files to
create, edit and print serial letter- and billing-templates. I'm currently
writing on a such application. The use of rtf-files makes it easy to search and
replace keywords in the template to create the case specific letter or bill. And
the templates and automaticly created files can be easily been saved into a
BIGTEXT field of a database.

THIS IS A KEY FEATURE FOR THE BUSINESS USE. PLEASE INTEGRATE THE FIX ASAP INTO
THE NEXT BUILD OR RELEASE CANDIDATE.

I don't think that it makes sense to have this issue in the UX team. Reassigned
to hbrikm.

set target
Comment 10 Mathias_Bauer 2007-12-04 13:10:38 UTC
not doable for 3.0, docx filter is consuming too much resources
Comment 11 Marcus 2017-05-20 11:15:47 UTC
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
