Description andree 2003-07-18 05:00:33 UTC
Scenario:
- create new spreadsheet document
- select all three tabs
- enter text 'Row 1' in cell A1
- enter text 'Row 2' in cell A2
- enter text 'Row 3' in cell A3
- highlight row 1 & copy
- highlight row 2 & paste special, select 'Shift cells->Down', click ok

Expected result:
- cell A1 reads 'Row 1', cell A2 read 'Row 1', cell A3 reads 'Row 2', cell A4
reads 'Row 3' on all three sheets

Actual (buggy) result:
- cell A1 reads 'Row 1', cell A2 read 'Row 1', cell A3 reads 'Row 2', cell A4
reads 'Row 3' only on sheet one
- for sheet 2 and sheet 3 a normal paste has happened replacing 'Row 2' in cell
A2 with 'Row 1'; no shifting has occurred for sheet 2 and sheet 3

Hi Andree,

this is not broken because it was never implemented in this way. So
it's an Feature request and I set the flags accordingly.

Best regards

Frank

Hi Frank

Excuse me if I attempt some advocacy from a user prespective. ;-)

If it was never implemented, one shouldn't be able to try doing it.
Therefore, I suggest that paste special be deactivated if more than
one sheet is selected I - ideally before 1.1 goes gold.

Otherwise users may just shoot themselves in the foot without the
slightest warning - especially as (a) undo is broken in this scenario
as well (see issue 17043) and (b) the You Know Who spreadsheet
application acts as expected.

It would be great if you could reconsider.

Best regards
Andree

A similar, simpler feature does not work in OOo 2.4.0 but does work in Excel 2003:

"When she wants to insert a row into all four sheets, I tell her to highlight
the four sheets and the row should automagically be inserted into all of them."
<http://www.oooninja.com/2008/05/readers-question-inserting-row-in-four.html>

In OOo 2.4.0, the operation is just performed on the single sheet visible.
