Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1713
638 Installation crashes OpenLinux 2.4.2
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:53:51 UTC
Hello! I'm trying to install the current binary (638) on Caldera OpenLinux. I'm new to Linux, but not to Unix. I've tried running the .bin file, but it just locks up my whole system. It freezes everything, cursor & all. After I chmod u+x and run the binary, it finds glibc 2, then pops up a Wizard-style installation gui. As soon as I click anywhere in the GUI, everything stops - my clock stops blinking, etc. By the way, I tried to install the StarOffice 5.2 and had the exact same problem. I tried the SO installation both as root and as a mere mortal. I haven't tried the OpenLinux installation as root, for fear of messing up the rest of my system. Thanks for the help, and please let me know if/how I can provide assistance!
Hardware: Intel PIII 500 w/ 256 MB RAM
Hi Jeff, we haven't forgotten you. As soon as possible we will try to test OOo638c on caldera 2.4. You have started installation with ./setup? What graphic device is running on your system?
Are you using Xfree 4.1.0?
I've been running install/setup, as obtained from install638_linux_intel.tar.gz. I'm using the graphics device that came with the OpenLinux 2.4 distribution: $ X -version This is a pre-release version of XFree86, and is not supported in any way. Bugs may be reported to XFree86@XFree86.Org and patches submitted to fixes@XFree86.Org. Before reporting bugs in pre-release versions, please check the latest version in the XFree86 CVS repository (http://www.XFree86.Org/cvs) XFree86 Version 4.0.2c / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6400) Release Date: 15 March 2001 If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ) Operating System: Linux 2.2.14 i686 [ELF] Module Loader present $ I'll be happy to download the OpenOffice source and try tracking down the problem more precisely, but I'm not sure how to go about it.
Is OOo 641 running with a newer xfree version? We have fixed a problem between OOo and xfree.
