Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1791
Single / Multi user install option should be selectable within GUI, should ask for password when needed
Last modified: 2007-01-31 16:21:31 UTC
The option of whether to install for single or multiple user should be part of the installer. This allows non technical users to simply click on the installation file and launch the installer without having to know the mysteries of command line parameters and read the accompanying documentation. If single user installation is selected, the installer should install as normal in that users home directory. If multiple user installation is selected, the installer should prompt for the root password and continue when it is entered. Most modern Linux apps which are graphical in nature ask for the root password when it is required, including almost all KDE aministrative apps, Red Carpet, up2date, etc, using kdesu or gnome-auth. StarOffice should have an equivalent of these two programs, rather than failing with an error message if the user tries to install to a system wide directory. Obviously the default directory for a multiple install should not be roots home directory, but this is already in an existing bug report.
It's still our decision to install as we do. So it's not an issue, it's a feature. Maybe you think this feature is not optimal, in this case you should write an issue, but the issue type is not "defect", it's an "enhancement" or "feature". Falko, it's your turn.
Currently we need to give the net parameter to setup _before_ setup actually starts. Thus once setup is started the decision has already need to be made! We will look into this later.
This is fixed for OOo 2.x
