Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17990
stock prices (numbers with fractions) not handled like Excel
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:55:29 UTC
As part of an online class teaching Excel, in OOo 1.1 Beta 2 I entered a column of stock prices as "aa b/c" format (integer number of dollars with fractional dollar). Most of the values apparently came through properly when I drew a stock price chart (low/high/close), but the fractions 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 were not handled properly. When the stock price is entered, using those particular fractions, two things happened: 1)the ISO single byte character for that fraction was used instead of three characters (num-slash-denom), which is inconsistent with other fractional values, and 2) those prices were apparently treated as text strings rather than numbers (plot was all messed up). It looks like someone got fancy with numeric formatting and decided on special treatment for 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4, with the result that they aren't recognized as numbers.
Hi, this is not a bug but a special option. Use Tools - Autocorrect - Options - Replace 1/2 with... and untag this checkbox. So I close it as invalid. frank
