Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1801
Toolbars cannot be repositioned
Last modified: 2003-10-15 13:44:25 UTC
Most modern Unix, MacOS and Windows applications allow the left hand side of a toolbar to be `grabbed', and rearranged on screen. This is an important feature as it allows the application to effectively make use of screen real estate. For example, is a user is running OpenOffice on a reasonably high resolution display, they should be able to place the Function Bar and the Object Bar beside eachother, allowing more space for the docuement. Currently, OpenOffice does not allow this type of control over its toolbars. It would be great if it could.
Reassigned to Falko.
Mike, as I don't know if you are aware of it (please forgive me if I'm repeating basics here :): The toolbars _can_ be arranged (but in opposite to MS, this is done differently). But you are right, it is _not_ possible to arrange the Function bar and the Object bar beside each other. IMHO, we should kiss the object of a single dedicated object bar good bye. There should be a set of small toolboxes with logical similar tools. And these toolboxes should a) be free arrangeable b) change dependent on the current context (as the object bar currently does) Though I think that for a), we don't need this "left hand grab helper" we all know from Microsoft - the current functionallity (grab a toolbox on every free pixel, but additionally press Ctrl) is better than MS' one I think: With our appraoch, you never (okay, seldom :) accidentially move your toolbox, while with MS, I often have to re- aagange them because I was too fast with the mouse.
I will get back to this issue asap
This is an issue that will be covered with 2.0 successor.
