Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1806
Duplicate `Format -> Page' in `File -> Page Settings'
Last modified: 2003-03-11 18:15:23 UTC
Many people used to working in Microsoft Office and other windows application that follow the same UI style seem to have trouble discovering OpenOffices Format -> Page menu, because they are used to finding these options in the `File' menu with the other printing options. Personally, I like Staroffice's method of locating this dialog, but I would like to see some way of helping out the MS Office users who have trouble with it. Perhaps duplicating the menu under the File menu might be an option, or maybe having a `10 important things for MS Office users to know' document might help. Something to think about.
I (strongly!) dislike the idea of duplicating the menu entry under "File". We should no sacrifice _everything_ on the altar of microsoft compatibility. OOo has a clear (and, in my opinion, _logical_ - mostly :) _own_ philosophy, and this always was part of the success of SO. If we're just another microsoft clone, it's no worth it anymore .... So I think the problem should be solved by marketing, or by support. It's only _one_ (out of many) small piece of information (former) microsoft users have to know. We surely should try communicating the differences, instead of removing them. Just my humble opinion ...
Mine too! Reassignded to Falko.
We will not sacrifice what-so-ever lagacy misplacements of MS Office menues and the like (e.g. I will always downturn a separate "Tables" menu entry!)
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved duplicate issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
