Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 18331
only one "Grand Total" line given even if 2 or 3 groups
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:55:29 UTC
One can use the Data>Subtotals option in Calc to calculate subtotals, group averages, counts, etc. for one to three groupings. While each group (change of field value) gets its appropriate set of values and subtotals, only one "Grand Total" is given: for the first grouping defined. Grand Totals (or "Overall Average"s, "Total Count"s, etc.) should be given for all groupings. It is possible that for some functions "Grand" or "Overall" values may not make sense, but for most they should.
Please attach a document showing the behaviour. Frank
Created attachment 9017 [details] show how only one Grand Total line shown for Subtotals
Hi Phil, nice to have the text file but an sxc document would save much more time. For future attachments please use the appropriate OOo documents. Frank
Hi, I've checked it with OOo11rc3 and there is no bug to discover. The Grand Total is just a description for the numbers following in the same row. So there is a Grand Total for both columns. regarding the average function, you have to define it for each option tagged under calculate sub totals for. So closing as worksforme. Frank

Yes, you do get each column's grand results HORIZONTALLY, **BUT** you are missing the different groupings' functions' grand results VERTICALLY. For example, if "1st Group" is SUM and "2nd Group" is AVERAGE, you will see a Grand Total for the SUM function (one number per column summed). HOWEVER, there is no grand result for the AVERAGE function: Col 1 Col 2 35 12 <-- data row 1 71 21 <-- data row 2 Result 1: 106 33 <-- SUM (1st Group) Result 2: 53 16.5 <-- AVERAGE (2nd Group) 304 102 <-- data row 3 171 67 <-- data row 4 218 112 <-- data row 5 Result 1 693 281 <-- SUM (1st Group) Result 2 231 93.67 <-- AVERAGE (2nd Group) Grand Total 799 314 <-- SUM of all rows Overall Avg.159.8 62.8 <----- MISSING Overall Average LINE Since GRAND TOTAL is appropriate only for the SUM function, how about naming the "grand" lines as "Overall <function>" e.g., Overall Sum, Overall Count, Overall Average.
Hi, the grand total depends on the setting in the first group, just like Excel do it. The subtotal function of Calc is more powerfull then Excels. So this is a limitation you have to live with and it's not a bug. So closing as invalid. Frank
