Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 18555
Parts of Speech for Thesauri
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:35:10 UTC
A thesaurus would be more useful if parts of speech could be recognized. For example "get (verb)" would have a different set of alternatives from "get (noun)". The basic categories would be verb, noun, adverb/adjective and other (about 150 words in English and less in German -- never many in any language). Perhaps an "all" category would duplicate the current behavior. It would also greatly reduce the number of useless alternatives presented by the current thesaurus arrangement.

As an example in 1.1.1rc, I typed the word "jack" and then opened the thesaurus. "Jack" can be a proper name (synonym example of human names: Jake, John, Johnson, James), a common noun or a verb. The list provided mixes all three categories and makes the list extremely long and searches for a proper synonym very time consuming. I think this kind of enhancement would make the thesaurus much easier to use.
