Description zingale 2003-09-05 23:40:49 UTC
Hi, I am using OOo 1.1rc3 on Redhat Linux 8.0. I have installed mplayer 0.90
and the mplayer-plugin 0.8, and confirmed that the plugin is working properly
through Mozilla (1.3). Without any intervention on my part, the
Insert/Object/Video menu item is now active -- to me this indicates that it is
finding the mplayer plugin. I have tried to insert video using this menu item,
and a box with a puzzle-piece image briefly appears, followed by a box
containing the words 'starting plugin /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/' with the rest
cutoff (this is in Draw mode). If I switch to presentation mode, I see a brieft
stopwatch icon, followed by the same box, with the words `starting plugin
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in.so'.

No video ever appears.

Has anyone be able to embed video into OO Impress presentations? This is all
that is missing from OO for me, and most of my colleagues.

I added

logfile=$HOME/mplayerplug-in.log
debug=1

to ~/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf

and got a 68000 line debug logfile from creating a new, blank
presentation, inserting a video, and switching to the presentation
(full screen mode).

In this file, only 21 of the 68000 lines are unique:

The most interesting is the last, URL: (null).

I don't understand how OOo passes information to the plug-in, but
since it seems that openoffice is starting the plug-in, is it possible
that the name of the movie is not being properly passed? As I said
above, this configuration works fine with Mozilla.

This issue is duplicate to issue 18652 which is duplicate to issue 12911.
Issue 12911 is closed as fixed therefore I close this issue too.
Please reopen it if the bug still occures in a version later then 680m33 (OOo2.0)

Still a problem with OOo 2.2. I am using OOo version 2.2.0 on Windows XP, both
in Norwegian versions. Some videos will show like they should, others
disappear and yet others just makes OOo hang when attempting to play. There
doesn't seem to be a connection between the error and either file type, size,
or special characters in the source file name. (I have tried avi and mpeg,
with go and no-go results from both types)

Works OK when using a link to external file instead of embedding the video.
This may indicate that the internal media player has something to do with the
problem (or is that just a wrapper?).

Others have reported similar problems on different constellations:
