Description magrawal 2003-09-11 15:14:53 UTC
In Impress, when you create subheadings, the font sizes do not change by
default. This makes it difficult to visually represent sub-titles. In the
attached file for example, all the sub-headings are the same font size by
default - 24. It would have been helpful if font sizes progressively reduced by
default as 24 - 22 - 20 - 18 ... till some minimum. Occasionally, bold and
italics could be used to distinguish between levels.

Users can certainly change sizes according to their personal preference. But I
believe that most users expect sub-headings to have a smaller font size than its
corresponding heading.

You used a hard formatting with the object bar, not a soft formatting
with the stylist, did'nt you? Please hit F11 to call up the stylist.
Use a rigth click on the outline 1-9 styles and you will see that the
font size is reduced for the first 4 sizes of headings. You can change
the size of each heading to fit your wishes.
Hope this helps. Thanks.

Comment 4 magrawal 2003-09-11 16:02:11 UTC
Actually no, I did not use hard formatting. I created this
presentation by importing a powerpoint presentation (the one offered
by the publisher - Wiley). I now understand the problem. In the
original powerpoint presentation, outline 1 styles are in size 24 but
in OO, outline 1 is 32, outline 2 is 28 and so on. Therefore, since
the fonts were already smaller than the specified font sizes in OO, OO
did not change fonts.

I guess this becomes an issue with Powerpoint import, rather than
Impress itself. But it is an issue nevertheless, IMHO.

I have attached 2 files: the original powerpoint file and a converted
Impress file (using OO RC3). I have used slide 6 to show my problem in

Interestingly, though outlines 4, 5 and 6 have sizes defined as 20,
when I created the example paragraphs on slide 6 (marked in red),
these paragraphs did not come in font size 20. They are all getting a
default font size of 24.
Comment 10 christian.guenther 2003-10-21 09:19:14 UTC
Sorry for the long delay.
Could you please attach the original PPT-file of the 'Test of
outline1, test of outline2, ...' file?
Comment 11 magrawal 2003-10-21 14:20:14 UTC
It is the CH03.ppt file which is already attached to this issue. The
specific slide where I showed the Test of outline ... in Impress is
based on slide 6 in the ppt file. The size.sxi slide is based on slide
26 in the ppt file. Hope this is the information you were looking for.

set to new and change the target
Comment 13 christian.guenther 2003-10-27 12:53:00 UTC
I can reproduce the bug with the attached document ch03.ppt.
- load the file with PPT
- change to slide 6
- set the cursor on the first pos of the first paragraph
- press the Tab key to indent the paragraph
- the text size shrinks (24,20,18,16)

- do the same in OOo1.1 (also with ch03.ppt)
- the text size is allways 24
Comment 14 sven.jacobi 2004-01-29 14:04:04 UTC
SJ->CGU: That the font size is shrinking if you are pressing multiple tabs is
not a bug it is a feature called "Fit text to fit placeholder size". And because
this Issue is a new feature and not a PPT specific filter problem this issue
should be discussed by the user experience team and the project owner.
Comment 15 christian.guenther 2004-02-02 13:56:44 UTC
You are right.
I deselected the feature in PPT and saved the file again.
Now the text resize after pressing the Tab key.
I change the issue type to feature and send the issue to the user experience team.
Comment 16 christian.guenther 2004-02-02 14:04:44 UTC
This is not a bug but a feature.
Please have a look.
