Description mramsell 2003-09-19 01:03:44 UTC
In Impress it is impossible to insert a <tab> character at the beginning of a
line within a textbox. It appears that the feature of changing the style
automatically interfers with this function.
I was also unable to PASTE a <tab> in. Right justified tabs at the beginning of
the line are rendered useless. This is really slowing down my process of
eliminating MS PowerPoint.

Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test
it. (Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily)
Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is
small, but we still able to see the problem.

I've uploaded a 77K presentation that has the problem described. This
file started as an MS Office 97 PowerPoint file.
Entering a <tab> character at the beginning of line for any event
listing will cause the style to change instead of inserting a <tab>.

I already download the file,
I open in OOo 1.1
and put the cursor before the time, example before 8.30, I press
backspace to delete the tab. after That I can use tab, without loosing
anything.
can you please tell step by step how to reproduce the problem

I followed the procedure you describe and it does not insert a <tab>.
The style is changed from "Outline 1" to "Outline 2". If you then
<backspace>, the line does not shift back to the left (unindent).

If you use slide 3, "Calendar (Monday)" and place the cursor at the
last available position in the central textbox, insert a <CR> and try
to enter a <tab> character it changes the style but does not place a
<tab> in the textbox. At least it doesn't work for me.

Because I currently have RH9 loaded I can duplicate the problem with
OO 1.0.2 under Linux and OO 1.1 RC3 under Win 98 SE using the test file.

I'm of the opinion that the problem is not with the main functionality
of OO but with the import of an MS Office 97 file. I can create a file
from scratch and the problem goes away. Unfortunately I have hundreds
of files to recreate then.

I can confirm this. The tabs and indents defined in Line 1 "4:00 PM
Moms in Motion" carry to the next line with a carriage return at the
end of the first line, though. But applying the Tab key in the second
line without entering anything else before resets all indents and tabs.

It doesn´t, however, resets tabs and indents when it is preceded by a
space (space bar).

So that´s a workaround, but the defect remains.

It is not possible to insert a leading tab in an outline textobject. This works
neither in Impress nor in PPT.
the leading tabs in the attachment must be entered with a little trick
- insert a letter
- insert the tab
- delete the letter again.
To insert a leading tab use a textobject and not the outline object.
Comment 11 christian.guenther 2004-01-05 13:34:33 UTC
Sorry my mistake.
You can insert a leading tab with Ctrl Tab in PPT.
Comment 12 christian.guenther 2004-01-05 13:46:30 UTC
It should be possible to insert a leading tab in an outline text object (or a
text object with bullets) with 'Ctrl Tab'.
This is possible in MS PPT and it is also possible in OOo Writer.
