Description stx123 2003-10-02 22:54:33 UTC
I think an expiration mechanism for mailing lists would be a good idea.
Messages could be deleted after x days.
Helpful configuration options would be
- Domain wide default
- Patterns for lists to cover notification lists like cvs@* , issues@*
- Per single list

Greetings, Stefan

St,

Having filed an internal query. It would be great if you could give the
business need & how it would help your process. I will add this to the
Engineers update which will help them decide the time frame

Thanks

Even the most valuable data is outdated after some time :-)
This enhancement request came up during a discussion about indexing for search,
disk space constraints and performance issues.
An expiration mechanism would help to reduce the size of mailing list archives -
esp. those for notification lists like cvs@<project> or issues@<projects>.

Marking TM as consid-future. Sorry for the SPAM.
Comment 8 Unknown 2007-03-07 14:32:30 UTC
reopening the issue for follow-up
Comment 9 Unknown 2007-04-18 13:35:00 UTC
The new Discussion Service provides a facility to hard/soft delete mailing
list/discussion forum which would be helpful in archiving the requirements as
mentioned by Stefan in desc5 .

Moving this issue to the resolved later queue .

Discussions which replace mailing lists in CEE 5.0 allows bulk deletion of
messages in a particular thread. This may help issues@ discussion in a way that
all messages for a particular issue can be bulk deleted in one go. This is one
step ahead of the current mailing list feature which allows only a
message-by-message deletion of mails.

However, the expiration mechanism requested in this issue is being considered to
be implemented in a future release.

Karishma

Comment 13 Unknown 2009-01-23 10:49:54 UTC
CollabNet Support is currently reviewing the issues under Resolved-Later. If the
issues are fixed currently in any of the present CEE releases, then it will be
marked as Resolved-Fixed.

There might be a few issues which might not be in our future roadmap which might
be closed as Wontfix unless it does not lie under any custom request.
Comment 14 Unknown 2009-01-23 10:51:23 UTC
Keeping it open for validation
Comment 15 Unknown 2009-01-28 12:07:25 UTC
We are planning to add a new page that would allow an admin to select a range of
dates and soft or hard delete all messages that fall in that range. Something
like "the last N months". Or "messages received between START_DATE and END_DATE".

This most likely will be implemented in CEE 5.3
Comment 16 Unknown 2009-01-28 12:08:08 UTC
However this will be fixed in Discussions.
Comment 17 stx123 2009-01-29 09:33:31 UTC
A manual bulk deletion with flexible criteria might be useful.
But this issue is about automatic expiration (read deletion) of messages without
manual interaction.
Comment 18 Unknown 2009-01-29 12:01:59 UTC
It is marked as CEE Consid-future for automatic expiration
Comment 19 Unknown 2009-03-17 10:21:50 UTC
A manual bulk deletion with flexible criteria has been introduced & implemented
in CEE 5.3.

However, we are not planning for automatic expiration (read deletion) of
messages without manual interaction.

Hence marking it as Wontfix
