Description som30ne 2003-10-04 10:37:17 UTC
in some mathematical work I had to write "1/an" in the word processor,
and when doing so while writing right to left it always came as "an/1", no
matter if I typed it as "1/an" or "an/1".

What was the directioanlity setting for the paragraph? Can you attach an exmaple file?

Hmm, I don't know whether this is something we can fix. I guess this
is a bit like typing H-5 in a bidi context (but even more tricky).

@submitter+community: I don't really see a chance to get this fixed
(see below for a recommended work around). Thus without lots of votes
or better suggestions for a fix, I tend to close this one as
"WONTFIX". What do you think?

The rcommended way
in OpenOffice would be to insert an OpenOffice Math Object
(/Insert/Object/Formula or quicker: with the Object-Fly-Out Menu in
the vertical Object Bar).

Unfortunately this reveals a new problem:
In the formula window type: "1 over an".
The formula gets painted in the object window but vanishes as soon as
one leaves the formula editor (click back in OOo Writer window).
Filing a new issue out of this finding (issue 21334).

Well, I dont know how MS did it, but they did, I can type 1/an if I
specifically change the typing direction (I.E. use Alt-Shift) to
English, before typing the "1/an".
If I do not do so, I get "AN1/", using <Shift-A> and <Shift-N> or if
I change the tyiping direction after typing "1/" I get "an1/".

So, I believe you should track the Lang. being used to correctly
display the text, I believe that should also solve the ")?????("
problem.

FME->som30ne: Please have a look at i18024. I think this should solve
your problem. In this case, please close this issue.
Comment 8 som30ne 2003-10-28 15:43:17 UTC
it seems to have a chance to solve the problem.
How will I be able to know if this solution have been implemented ?
When do you suppose the solution will be implemented ? - as I would
like to try and test it . . .

FME->som30ne: The target of #18024# is OOo 2.0. But I currently cannot
say, when this will be implemented.
Comment 10 sforbes 2003-12-03 14:02:41 UTC
this can probably be solved by the fix for issue #13091 or issue #18024
