Description egbertk 2003-10-10 20:39:58 UTC
It is OOo 1.1 in the German version (de).
If I open a document (no matter if Writer, Calc, ...) through a symbolic link,
edit it and try to save it, I get the error message "Sicherungskopie konnte
nicht angelegt werden" (i.e. backup copy could not be created).

A test case is very simple:
1. create a document
2. create a symbolic link to this document
3. open the symbolic link with OOo
4. edit this document
5. save this document, you will get the error message

This bug is new to OOo 1.1, it was not in StarOffice 6.0 (Service Pack 2)
which is basically OOo 1.0x.

Confirmed with 1.1 (int'l version) on Redhat 9.0.
Comment 2 thorsten.martens 2003-10-15 10:42:00 UTC
TM->FS:Looks like this one is the same as 21160 (the one we talked
about and I send to you). Please have a look.

I can reproduce this problem using the English version of OOo 1.1 on
SuSE 8.1.

Comment 9 Frank Schönheit 2004-04-23 13:00:04 UTC
fs->mba: framework problem when storing the document?
Comment 10 Mathias_Bauer 2004-04-30 11:06:30 UTC
Is this a bug of the file UCP or an OSL bug?
According to Hennes Rohling osl can resolve links (explicitly).
Comment 11 ajarmoniuk 2004-05-16 14:27:09 UTC
I also have the problem described in the issue. However, it only occurs
if I run OpenOffice 1.1 or 1.2 in Gnome, ie. the program reports that it
cannot create a backup copy each time I try saving a file.

When I try saving to symbolic links in KDE, it WORKS.

Strange, isn't it?

Comment 12 egbertk 2004-05-16 17:40:45 UTC
I had this error running OpenOffice.org in KDE.
Comment 13 rblackeagle 2004-05-16 22:16:06 UTC
This happens with me using KDE and 1.1.2rc, except that I am not using symbolic
links. It is set to save in {HOME}/OpenOffice.org1.1.2/user/backup but when
closing a file it gives the message that it could not create a backup copy.
Still, the backup copy is stored there anyway.

I have reinstalled Gnome (got the list of all packages, removed them, cleared
apt cache and installed again) and I am able to save to symbolic links witn OOo 1.1.

I don't know if it's the OO problem.

It's a duplicate of http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=17061
The issue's been targeted to 2.0... :-S

I wish I could mark duplicates now.

I could only reproduce this bug when using Nautilus from the new Gnome 2.6.
It worked ok with the old Nautilus, with xffm from XFCE and under KDE.
Comment 18 Mathias_Bauer 2004-11-09 08:33:09 UTC
Stephan, please take this over. Andreas thinks that the problem is in the file
UCP, it uses the URL of the link, not the target of it. OSL seems to provide all
necessary functionality.
