Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 21039
Export to Microsoft Word appears to break some indents / header style placement
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
I just thought I'd see how OpenOffice was doing, and while it's looking pretty darn good, my little test hasn't been entirely successful. I used it to import my CV from M$ Word and export it again, and while it looked great in OpenOffice, what came back out in Word .doc format is broken. Specifically, my header 1, header 2 and body styles appear with the correct indent, but the header 3 and header 4 indents are wrong. More oddly, inspecting the style definition shows the amount of indent to be numerically correct, though in the summary display for the style there are oodles of extra options apparently there that I didn't choose and may be affecting things. I'll attach my original .doc, my .sxw and my new .doc as well as screenshots. I'm using Microsoft Office XP Professional on Windows XP Professional. I wish I could dump MS. I do run Linux but not on the desktop, yet, so keep up the good work guys!
Created attachment 10204 [details] Original .doc, imported .sxw, exported .doc, screenshots from my PC, and a shot of the Office XP style dialogue using the exported .doc
I can Reproduce the problem on OpenOffice 1.1 (default Install, US), Win XP Pro Sp1. (And MS Office XP Sp2). It is real problem when opening the sxw file, and save in the ms word, some indentation as described by reporter have problem/moved

Created attachment 10302 [details] Shorter version of the original .doc
MRU->CMC: I've attached a much shorter version of the .doc, which shows the problem. It is imported properly, but the export adds an outline numbering which isn't needed here. Thus, the numbered paragraphs in Heading 2 -4 recieve an additional tab for indentation.
small addendum: re-import in Writer looks fine; exported version only has wrong indents when opened in Word.
Its the tabs, there is numbering of "nothing" from from word and writers perspective, which is different from no numbering. In such cases the tab seperator for the numbering should not be set. Fixed for 2.0 in kilkennyfilterteam14
reopen to reassign
cmc->mru: How about now in kilkennyfilterteam14
Yeah, I see. Good fix in CWS kilkennyfilterteam14.
Verified. Fix will be included in OO 2.0.
