Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 21652
Chart can't plot 2 XY functions with different X values
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:21:18 UTC
When creating an XY chart that should plot 2 functions, it is not possible to have independent X values for the functions. It is a paramount requirement when plotting data where the sample points are not identical, often occuring in scientific, engineering and business applications. Both Excel'97 and ApplixWare 4.2 can have separate X series for each data set it plots on a chart, the different data sets do not have to even consist of the same number of data point pairs. I attach an Excel'97 spreadsheet with a chart on it. In excel it shows 2 functions (a parabola and an exponential). After importing in OOo the chart is actually empty. The chart is not reproducible in OOo at all.

Sorry, I accidentally sent it as DEFECT, I hope I can change it to FEATURE.
Agreed, for many applications the functionality is totally inadequate. For example, I tried to plot an XY chart of a bond repayment based on the number of months and the amount repayed. I needed an XY so that the number of months don't all have to be spaced evenly. I was surprised that this is not possible in OpenOffice.org
