Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 21780
ideas
Last modified: 2017-05-20 08:49:20 UTC
I really like the idea of OpenOffice and had a few ideas that I would like to share and couldn't find any other place to submit them. 1. Set-up an email client. 2. For business, set up a server suite that acts like exchange where you can send meeting requests, find out when people are availible, open up a project and let everyone in the meeting control it (online collaboration, etc.) 3. Add in an instant messaging program that is more p2p for home users but lets you do the same type of things as the server suite. 4. In the html page editor add a feature to switch back and forth between HTML code and page view, like dreamweaver and frontpage. 5. add the ability to encrypt files 6. make the ability to reposition the menu bars like in Microsoft Office 7. when customizing, make it so you can get rid of items in the drop down menu's too. I am still coming up with ideas as I have just started using this lovely program, but I am definitely going to report things as I find them. Kyle
Thanks for these ideas; you can mail general ideas to either users@ or dev@groupware.openoffice.org. I am marking this issue LATER as the mail and IM features are in progress. I will close this issue when those features are integrated. Here are some comments about each of your requests: > 1. Set-up an email client. This is already planned. > 2. For business, set up a server suite that acts like exchange where you can send meeting requests, find out when people are availible, open up a project and let everyone in the meeting control it (online collaboration, etc.) This is already possible; see for example OpenGroupware.org or the SunONE Calendar Server for some products that Glow works with. > 3. Add in an instant messaging program that is more p2p for home users but lets you do the same type of things as the server suite. We are already building the IM feature for Glow. > 4. In the html page editor add a feature to switch back and forth between HTML code and page view, like dreamweaver and frontpage. StarOffice/OpenOffice.org is not really a HTML editor, it is an office productivity suite; it can read/write HTML but HTML is not the runtime "document model". However, it would be possible to provide a feature to save to HTML and view this in a separate window. If this sounds useful, please raise this against OpenOffice.org. > 5. add the ability to encrypt files This is an OpenOffice.org feature that is coming soon. > 6. make the ability to reposition the menu bars like in Microsoft Office This is already possible; try the Tools/Configure menu. > 7. when customizing, make it so you can get rid of items in the drop down menu's too. See Tools/Configure menu.
