Description wilhelmpflueger 2003-11-04 22:43:57 UTC
Loading a *.sxw or *.rtf document containing graphics that are linked to web
takes a long, long time when LAN is not enabled (switched off, firewall, ...).

An example file of 4 pages takes the blink of an eye with graphics linked to
local (non-existing) file and takes about 20sec. with graphics linked to an url
in LAN and LAN not enabled.

My original problem was a file of 15 pages with some dozens of graphics that are
nearly invisible (size of 1x2 mm only).

Attachment contains sample files NP_v4.rtf (LAN graphics) and
NP_v4a.rtf (local graphics).

I found similar issues: 9861 / 4608

can not confirm this here on my system, but i have net enabled, just
the graphic is missing. please just tell me is the the networksource
disabled or does the pc, the error occured on, not have any
networkconnection?

I'll try to be precise:
1) Load file NP_v4.rtf (LAN graphics) with net enabled - fast loading.
2) Load file NP_v4a.rtf (local grapics, but graphics not available) -
fast loading.
3) Now: switch OFF your router OR disconnect the LAN cable OR enable
firewall denying all LAN traffic for OpenOffice (be sure that PC is
still powered on ;-) Now the loading of the file is SLOW.

i followed your instructions. and still can not confirm the described
behaviour. both files load with the same speed no matter if lan is
dis-/enabled.

i just load them with lan enabled, then disconnected the lan cable and
load them again (closed them before reopen). both load fast in both
situations.
Comment 6 wilhelmpflueger 2003-11-08 12:11:42 UTC
Is it possible to influence the loading behaviour of WAN/LAN links in
OOo setup? I could try some setup option if I have any idea what could
influence the loading.
Comment 7 jack.warchold 2003-11-10 12:25:12 UTC
i just used the standart settings. only change i had to standart is a
set proxy under tools -> options -> internet -> prioxy. but as i said,
i had no networkcable connected. i would like it, if sombody else
could test this behaviour on a pc, not connected to any network.

I tried this and that without any success - I don't have an idea what is special
with my computer.

i have one more question, is there only NO networkcable connection or does this
pc have no network settings at all?
if it has networksettings and only the cable is disconnected, have you tried to
disable the firewall? and tried loading the document again?
i tried this on a pc that has no networkcard and no connection to the internet
at all, same result as i have here on this pc, both documents load nearly at the
same speed. the second pc is a amd k6-2 400 so it is rather slow.
Comment 12 wilhelmpflueger 2003-12-25 22:45:42 UTC
I tried it again with a file containing some dozens of this graphic-URLs. No
firewall, no virus scanner, cable unconnected: 240 sec. No firewall, no virus
scanner, cable connected: 10 sec.
Comment 13 jack.warchold 2004-01-08 11:45:35 UTC
is it possible for you to test this on another pc? just to see if this is maybe
a issue just related to your system?
Comment 14 wilhelmpflueger 2004-01-11 21:30:36 UTC
I checked it on another PC in the same network with no performance problems. The
pc with problems is WinXP Home, 2.66 Ghz. The one without problems is Win98SE
with 500 MHz.
I'm not able to figure out what is wrong with the WinXP pc.
I think we have to forget about this issue - thanks for your patience.
I'll be back if I can identify the reason for this behaviour.
