Description richlv 2003-12-09 15:50:13 UTC
scenario :
create new spreadsheet
format cell a1 as number, a2 as text
select row a by clicking on label
format it as number
cell a2 hasn't type changed.

also works this way if the two cells are selected by dragging cursor and it is
not important which cell is active. also is the same for multiple cells.

solutions :
1. change cell type of all cells that are selected or
2. if this is intentional - display a dialog box that would explain situation
and ask if type should be changed for all cells that are selected

Confirmed on OpenOffice.org 1.1.0 built from sources, running on Gentoo Linux.

Hi,

I could not reproduce under WinXP and Linux (Suse 8.2).

Richlv what OS do you use and have you compiled OOo by yourself ?

Hi,

as I got no document I've asked my crystal ball ;-)

If you format a1 as number and fill the cell with say 123, format a2 as text and
fill it with let's say 456, select a1:a5 and choose format cell number from the
context menu and apply this format to the range, a2 will not change from number
to text because there could be some good reasons to have such text cells as they
are, text. So this works as intended.

So I close this Issue as invalid.

ahh, i'm very sorry, somehow i missed this request for addition information.
1. the problem is, oo.org behaves this way even with empty cells;
2. this behaviour is completely silent. user finds out this only when something
is wrong with calcualtions etc.

so, to make sure users don't get too confused i opened issue http://www.
