Description angin31 2004-01-07 15:06:03 UTC
We have some training manuals created in Word 2000. Print screens were used in
the document. We recently switched to OpenOffice, and it will not display the
graphics. When you have the document open, their is a border showing where the
graphic is. You can click on it and the resizing squares show as well as an
anchor icon, but the image doesn't display. If you right click inside the
border, the menu that pops up doesn't have the graphics option. Also, the menu
has open at the bottom, if you click that, the windows paint program opens with
the image showing. The person who made the manuals said he used paint to do
the cropping. Another thing... When we make a new document and hit print
screen and then use Edit - Paste to put the image in, the right click menu for
the graphic will have Graphics as an option. But, the Edit and Open options,
which we get on the bottom of the menu for the graphics causing the problem,
are gone. Its almost like OpenOffice is treating them as something different
than a graphic.

We get the same results of our graphics not showing when we try to print as
well. I checked the Options button in the print window, and everything in the
first column is checked except Black. Checking Black didn't help.

We tried exporting to PDF, and the graphics show up, but not in the correct
spot and they are blocking the words. The Arrange option doesn't seem to have
any effect at all. We did a right click and chose Object, and then chose the
Wrap tab and changed those setting, but it didn't do anything either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. There are probably 20 or 30 manuals and
some of the are 20 or 30 pages with graphics through out.
If you need examples, let me know how to get them to you.

Thanks, I know this is a long message. Hope it makes sense.

These graphics all have "contour wrap". Turning off this in the graphics
properties will make them visible. As long as contour wrap works slightly
different in MS Word and OO Writer, it can lead to such problems.
OO 2.0 will be able to read the contour wrap correctly from MS Word files. The
current OO 2.0 snapshot 680m17 may already have this implemented (not sure) but
the next one of course.

Verified fix with internal OO 2.0 build.

MRU-MM: Custom does not seem to be implemented (See issue 17474) for OLE objects.
Do you see a chance to do this for OO 2.0?
