Description falko.tesch 2004-01-22 15:56:23 UTC
FT: Since Stella is not within the IZ I will address you with this bug (to
forward it to Stella).
Currently we do not have any Chinese flag in our Gallery (anymore).
We need to add these flage again.
In the light of Taiwan's status for PRC (being seen as a region not a souvereign
country) we must introduce the following flags altogether:
PR China
Taiwan
Hong Kong
Since Hong Kong is not own country anymore PR Chinese users will interpret the
Taiwanese flags the same way as the Hong Kong one: As a region of China.
On the other hand Taiwanese users will not grudge about miassing their flag but
having the PRC one in the gallery.

So long as we do not let flags make a political statement, I think this is good.
However, I would think users might want to make their own changes. Some
Taiwanese and Hong Kong users now in other countries might want local flags.
The same arguments can also be made for other flags of now-defunct countries,
such as flags for various nationalist movements where people may want to use the
old flags for nostalgia or just for fun -- or, more significantly, for any works
addressing historical or political issues.
