Description stx123 2004-01-27 18:38:45 UTC
If you are not logged in then there is no obvious way to subscribe to a mailing
list from the mailing list page like
http://qa.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList

In former SourceCast versions (1.1.3) there were mailto links which should be
added again.
Comment 1 testusermohan 2004-01-30 09:47:13 UTC
The earlier version of Sourcecast has lesser security precautions compared to
the present Version.
Mailing list are part of projects, When you are not a part of a project, you
would obviously be denied information about them. It is not plausible to give
out project information to a Non-Member.
If we give Mailing list permission to person who do not log in, then there is
not security for the project info.
The product is working as designed

Lessening priority as does nto affect the work flow

Comment 2 stx123 2004-01-30 14:02:47 UTC
From my point of view this has nothing to do with security and would like to be
informed about design changes.

- It's not obvious to me to deny anonymous guests access to project information.
- It is plausible for us to give anonymous guests access to mailing lists
(incl. the archive) without the need to login.
- You can subscribe to a project mailing list without any security measures.

It affects the workflow to request a login before you can subscribe.
This leads to confusion and complains from our users.
Raising prio back to p2.

Timeframe : Will Update the Engineers response as & when internal query is

Hi St,

The option to allow anonymous guest subscriber to mail list can be given by
admin by adding the permission
kindly add the permission to anonymous guest
in "http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/RolePermissionAdd?roleID=2" & the guest
will be able subscribe to the mailing list

-Thanks

Comment 5 stx123 2004-02-03 10:45:42 UTC
Could you let me know precisely which permission I should add to the role
Anonymous Guest?
Comment 6 Unknown 2004-02-09 18:04:26 UTC
1) I believe Mohan was confused w/ some permission perameters. As you already
stated, anonymous users can subscribe to your mail lists.

2) there's already an internal enhancement request for clearer html links to the
html subscriptions. I've updated the whiteboard w/ that number.

3) the easiest workaround is to do what you've already done on the main page
with a link to http://www.openoffice.org/mail_list.html#general

updating whiteboard, changing issue type, lowering priority as the workaround is
in place

Engineers are checking on the way to push back to the earlier method of
subscribtion.

Will update soon after their solution is delivered

Along with other mailing list related issues, this is being considered for the
Hudson release. Marking this as RESOLVED->REMIND.
Comment 10 stx123 2004-11-05 20:56:37 UTC
> Business impact?

I struggle with the description of the business impact as I consider this a
regression (a DEFECT) compared to the earlier SourceCast version.

For publicly available lists it's confusing to ask for registration/login before
one is easily able to subscribe to a list.
Interested people struggle with the subscription and won't join the list (and/or
project).

Given the recent rework on the communication part of SC/CEE it might be a good
time to review the issue.
Reopened for proper handling.

Hi

The issue is being considered for future release of CEE. Support will continue
to monitor the issue & review the fix in the corresponding release.

Comment 17 Unknown 2009-01-23 09:50:36 UTC
CollabNet Support is currently reviewing the issues under Resolved-Later. If the
issues are fixed currently in any of the present CEE releases, then it will be
marked as Resolved-Fixed.

There might be a few issues which might not be in our future roadmap which might
be closed as Wontfix unless it does not lie under any custom request.
Comment 18 Unknown 2009-01-23 09:53:06 UTC
In DS, Guest posting can be enabled fro public project discussion & a guest can
post in message & see the already existing messages by use of Web URL.

Hence marking it as fixed as it is available in CEE 5.0
