Description pavel 2004-02-03 06:28:29 UTC
Hi,

currently, we have allbugs list. It is really valuable for me, but I'd prefer to
read only New bugs, ie. bugs that are just entered and not all comments to all
issues.

The typical way I read allbugs-digest is to search for (I use Gnus so, it is
somewhat different in details) string "New -" in the subject. It would be really
nice to have a list where only such mails are sent.

Louis, please dispatch this. It got autoassigned to non-person issues@www.

mh->louis: my comment should have been like: changed the summary to somewhat
more understandable.
Comment 5 pavel 2004-04-23 20:01:29 UTC
More details:

such list would be a really big advantage for QA project and volunteers
handling/confirming new issues.

Back to louis.

I'm not passing the buck here (lovely american phrase) but there are a two questions I'll ask support:

1. Is this feasible to create?
2. If you can you create it, what is entailed from your end?

I know of no way this could be created from within SC. It is rather trivial to
set a filter for it in most email clients and have the emails routed to an
individual "mailbox", while the rest of the emails be sent to the bitbucket.
Here is a sample recipe in procmail:
---
:0
* Subject:.*] New -
newbugs

:0E
/dev/null
---

This will place all "new" issues in the 'newbugs' mailbox and the rest get
flushed.

Imagine typical today's traffic. About 20 new bugs and about 300 comments. So,
for having 20 mails, I will /dev/null 300 other mails. Each is about 5k. Imagine
this being done by about 20 people.

Wonderful. This is nice example of thinking in the short time frame only. We
can't do this in the way you proposed because this would raise the traffic of
our site.

pjanik, this is what I was afraid of: that it could not be done within SourceCast at present. Future
releases will supposedly have more flexible mail systems but at present we are stuck with the inflexible
one.

What we can do now is put in an RFE for this feature. I do not know when it would be implemented.
