Description dafo 2004-02-12 15:46:19 UTC
In the downloadable version of
OpenOffice.org 1.1
For spanish users, whose requirements are:
 * Linux Kernel versión 2.2.13 o superior
 * PC Pentium compatible
 * 64 MB RAM
 * 300 MB (CJK version: 350 MB) available hard disk space
 * X Server con una resolución de 800x600 puntos o mayor,
 * 256 colores como mínimo
 * Gnome 2.0 or higher required for Assistive Technology Tools
 * Window Manager
I have noticed that when loading a document in Open Office writer 1.0 format,
the objects such as inserted spreadsheets, take a considerable amount of
time in loading (up to fifteen seconds).
That delay is repeated each time I paste a new object from a OOcalc
spreadsheet.

The astonishing point is that this error does not occur in the binary
version of OO v1.0.1 spanish.

I am running a Mandrake Linux System, v 9.1, with a home made kernel,
v2.4.23 from kernel.org
JRE is:
 Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition Version 1.4.2
If it is of any help at all.

The window manager I'm using is Blackbox, all the same the problem does
not disappear when running Gnome 2.0.
The data of the machine is:
CPU: Intel Celeron A Mendocino/Pentium II Dixon 300.1 MHz
(Family: 6, Stepping: 5)
Detected cache-line size is 32 bytes
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 0 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0

With 196 MB SRAM and system bus of 100 MHz.
Will compiling from source in my machine help with solving this speed
problem?

Any way of solving the problem without compiling, maybe modifying one of the
startup scripts?
I will apreciate any help be mailed to (I don't have an internet connection
and I'm about 4 km from a terminal, running W*ndows (arghh)):

Joost->Diego: how much memory is available when you copy content from the
clipboard application ? Just paste the upper 5 rows of the output of 'top'.
Maybe you're running out of memory ?

64 Mb memory is considered as small for OOo.
meanwhile on your reports it is not clear the problems is exist on 1.1 or 1.0.

Please try using the latest OpenOffice 1.1.1 or maybe 1.1.2rc , you can
download it from http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.1/index.html
many bug fixes and enhancements since your version and 1.1.1 . If the problem
still happend in 1.1.1 please report back.
It maybe not yet solve your Issue, but it worth to try.
