Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 26025
define LANGUAGE_GAELIC for Gaelic
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:00:08 UTC
Hi, Gaelic localization is in the work, Northern Sotho is finished. We need LANGUAGE_NORTHERNSOTHO and LANGUAGE_GAELIC defined in tools/inc/lang.hxx Both languages seems to be not defined in MS world.
Eike, can you help here?
For Northern Sotho see issue 19334, I take this for Gaelic. Do we need only the LANGUAGE_... define and ISO mapping, or do we need "Gaelic" available in listboxes as well, for example in the character attributes dialog? If so, we'd need to involve Liz for resource string confirmation. Adjusting issue type to ENHANCEMENT and targeting to OOo2.0
Eike, thanks. I added me to CC: of 19334 and change subject of this issue accordingly. I think we also need Gaelic in the dialogs, because of other tools (spellcheck etc). According to http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/englangn.html, the language name is Gaelic (Scottish Gaelic), German translation seem to be available at http://www.wordreference.com/de/translation.asp?ende=Gaelic: 2 noun (language) Gälisch neuter Hmm, I like Internet. You seem to know German even the only sentence you know in that language is "Ich verstehe nicht Deutsch." :-)
Hi guys Pavel has asked me to explain the difference between Gaelic and Scottish Gaelic. The term Gaelic actually refers to a family of languages that includes Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig), Irish Gaelic (Gaeilge) and Manx Gaelic (Gailck). Scottish Gaelic is spoken in Northern Scotland and the Scottish Islands. Irish Gaelic is spoken in the Irish Republic and in areas of Northern Ireland. Manx Gaelic is spoken on the Isle of Man. The localisation of OpenOffice that we are working on is for Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig). Although all three languages share an ancient common root (Goidelic), they are actually quite different. The international language name for Scottish Gaelic is Gaelic (Scottish). The ISO code is gd. Apparently there is no Windows Name constant defined for this language, but the Windows code is 0x3c (0x043c) - whatever that means :-) I hope this helps! Bye for now.
Hi Liz, I propose the following resource strings for the locale/language list box, please confirm: English: Gaelic (Scotland) German: Gälisch (Schottland) @Evbuk: thanks for explanation. The Windows 0x043c code is primary language 0x3c (Gaelic) with sublanguage code 0x01, the combination of both designates Gaelic Scottish. If you're interested in detailed information please see tools/inc/lang.hxx (need to update the URLs there though). @Pavel: btw: the dictionary I prefer is http://dict.leo.org/ Thanks Eike
EM->ER: Thanks. I agree with you... English: Gaelic (Scotland) German: Gälisch (Schottland) All languages are listed with a country after them, not a nationality (as in the excellent and informative suggestion by evbuk).
Scheduled for cws_src680_i18naddloc.
I'm sorry to created unneccessary around this, but we seem to already have those defines in 1.1.1: inc/lang.hxx:#define LANGUAGE_GAELIC_SCOTLAND 0x043C inc/lang.hxx:#define LANGUAGE_GAELIC_IRELAND 0x083C I must be blind to not seem them :-(
I must have been blind too or misspelled GAELIC when searching.. I thought we had it, but then.. anyway, for listbox entries we still need this issue. Did anyone request Irish Gaelic so far?
No, at least I do not know that :-)
Eike, what should be the language code for Gaelic, if there is none defined at http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/nlsweb/ Would you mind to help me "assign" one?
Pavel, MS hides information at several places, the page you mentioned contains only values used by Windows XP. It seems the ultimate reference may now be found at http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/lcid-all.mspx The values we use for Gaelic in tools/inc/lang.hxx are identical to the ones listed there. I'll update URLs in lang.hxx the next time I edit it. Eike
Added on branch cws_src680_i18naddloc: svx/source/dialog/langtab.src 1.46.64.2
