A ,,fixed blank'' to suppress hyphenating cannot be set.

Hi there,

It's probably me being dim last thing on a Saturday night, but I'm not sure what
you mean! Could you give us step-by-step instructions of what you're doing, how
OpenOffice.org responds, and what you would expect it to do, please?

Thanks!
Stuart.

Hallo,
thank's for Your respond.I think I forgot to mention, that I am working with the
German version...
A "fixed blank" (pressing <ctrl> and <Space bar>) between two words should
prevent breaking them up into different lines; e.g. "<some other text> 90 km" in
<some other text> 90
km
The two words "90" and "km" in conjunction with a "fixed blank" between them
stay in one line.
Hopefully my English isn't to bad?

kpschmittgen:
is it really, that it cannot be set (means <ctrl>-<space> does not insert a
special character) or is the blank inserted, but the bords ar separated by a
line-break?
You could eaysily verify if you enable "show special character" - "Steuerzeichen
ein / aus"

If the "fixed blank" is not inserted, please provide more inforamtion about the
Desktop environment / Window Manager and Solaris version you use. (I guess,
<strg>-<space> is capturead by the window manager)

The key combination <ctrl><space> does not insert any character.
I am using CDE 1.5 (Solaris 9 sparc). As this key key combination works with
ApplixWare (same machine).

Hi kpschmittgen,

it seems, your problem is, that <cntrl><space> is already used by some other
application? That's no problem, you can change OOo shortcuts.

Example for your problem (Workaround):

1. Open writer Document
2. Menu 'Tools - confugure - Keyboard
3. select a free shortcut in pane "shorcut keys" by mouseclick, my example is
    'cntrl + shift + Space'
4. select in pane "Category": "Insert" by mouseclick
5. Select in pane "Function": "Non-breaking Space"
6. click button "Modify"

Now you have a shortcut 'cntrl + shift + Space' too insert a "Non-breaking Space"

If this hint is helpful for you, pls. add a comment and change status to WFM (if
you have privilege).

Rainer

Hi all!
On Solaris, Ctrl+space is used by the IME (Input Method Editor) to toggle
between 2 languages (i.e. mappings).

Rainer found a good work around.
In the future we will remap this shortcut anyway. Have a look at:

(point 6.10)

Thanks,
key shortcut ctrl+shift+space does some nonsens but
key shortcut ctrl+shift+insert works properly.
