Description maison.godard 2004-03-30 11:06:12 UTC
Hi all,

Currently testing the -net installation for windows

- Server side installation done under Win2k
- Client side installation under Win98

No problem on -net installing on the win2k server

BUT

on installing the "workstation" through network on Win98, the different cases
appear
- in every cases, the shortcut present at <oooNetDir> level doesn't launch
anything
- in some cases, launching directly //server/ooo/program/setup.exe mounted as
a disk works (with win2k pro)
- in some case, this even doesn't work (win2k server - setup starts and shuts
down, no resident process in memory)

WinXP tends to show the same behaviour (sometimes lanches setup and shutdown)

The problem seems not to be locale dependant as it has been reproduced with
french and english versions

This has never been working on OOo 1.x.x. Workstation installation with unc path
doesn't work. Mapping the drive solves the problem. It's no regression and not a
stopper for for 1.1.1.
of @ cj: Are there any requirement for OOo 2.0 to rework our behaviour?

Hi

Thanks for taking care
nevertheless, be carefull

even with a network drive (G: in my case), launching the shortcut doesn't work
as it contains an UNC !! Is it possible to make this shortcut relative
(something like program/setup.exe) or is it a windows problem ?

Target 2.0 seems very very far

Hi,
it works for me (OOo 1.1.1, Workstation 1: Win2K, Workstation 2: WinXP, Server:
Win2K Serv).

My installation steps:
1. from Workstation1 run "setup -net" and install on the server (\\server\path\OOo)
2. from Workstation2 run "\\server\path\OOo\OpenOffice.org Setup.lnk" and start
Workstation installation (D:\OOo)

Installation ends without errors. Shortcuts (and office apps) works correctly.

I think the problem is, if you run the server installation as 'local
installation' (without giving UNC paths).

Running installations on the follow workstation OS:
-Win 2000 (Swedish, SP1)
-Win XP (Swedish, SP4)

Can't run installation with UNC path on either WinXP or Win2000. The setup
never starts. With mapped drive it works.

Can't doubleclick on document files opening them with UNC path, but if the
shared resource is mapped to a local drive it works just fine.

CJ->OF: No there aren't any requirements for the Native installer regarding this
issue. However, due to the switch to native installer we have no chance to take
influence on that. I propose to close this issue.

For OOo 2.0 there is no workstation installation any longer. The userlayer will
be stored at '\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\'.
Comment 8 Olaf Felka 2004-09-08 11:43:26 UTC
We have a new installtion for OOo 2.0 -> obsolet.
