Description jpnelson40 2004-03-30 20:36:35 UTC
Whenever I first start the word processor program, and start to type the first
word, and then type space to go on to the next word, the program pauses or hangs
for about 20 seconds with disk activity, as if something is being compiled; from
that point on, everything works well. I use a 1.5 GigHz laptop, 512 Meg memory,
so lack of basic power isn't the problem. I do have a number of self-added
autocorrect replace words added to those that come with the system (technical
abbreviations that get expanded as I type). I notice that when I add a new one,
and then enter OK, that a similar pause occurs before returning to the text
buffer. So perhaps there is a compilation going on. Why does it need to be
redone each time? For me, needing to wait 20 seconds is quite inconvenient.
Could the same process be done at system startup (using the Quickstarter)? If I
am missing some trick, please let me know.

Hi,

thank you for using and supporting OpenOffice.Org!

For making it easier to reproduce your problem, please be so kind and attach -
from the path where you installed OpenOffice.Org to - the following file:

/OpenOffice.org/1.1.1/user/autocorr/acor1031.dat

This is the file from your setup, which contains not any confidential
information, but just your autoreplacement table.

To send attachments regarding issues, please attach the file directly to
the issue. Use the link "Create a new attachment" on the issue and then
select Binary file (application/octet-stream) where asked, "What kind of
file is this?" if your file's type does not show in the list.

Comment 9 jpnelson40 2004-08-12 15:43:42 UTC
The term in the documents seems to be "AutoCorrect". Note that the same issue is
seen in Calc entering the first text in a cell after starting the program.

Is any workaround known?
Comment 10 jpnelson40 2005-03-18 03:08:52 UTC
build 1.9.84 still has a long pause when opening autocorrect menu, or first
using the autocorrect replace function, but now without disk activity. I still
see this long pause as an important defect.
Comment 11 jpnelson40 2005-03-21 03:12:14 UTC
See Issue 45506 posted for 1.9.84. Since I corrected the replacement texts that
had spaces at their end, not only does the autocorrrect work for those
replacements, but now the time required for recompiling, or whatever it is
called, when I enter a space after the first word of a new text document, has
been reduced to about 2 seconds, still not ideal but a big improvement over the
previous 20 seconds or more. After entering a new definition, the pause after
clicking OK to close the dialog box is also now about 2 seconds. So these two
issues seem to be related by the ending spaces in the current version. Previous
versions seemed to do the replacements, unlike Issue 45506, but with the
slowness problem. I don't have a machine with the older version 1.1.4 to test
now: would removing the spaces by hand have the same speedup effect as in this
version?

confirmed on SRC680_m119
still occures. after the first start of the office, the wordprocessor needs up to 10
seconds to react after typing the first word and a blank space.
tested with the attached file on linux.

after talking to fme reassigned to os
