Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 28420
Drawing objects not named automatically in navigator
Last modified: 2017-05-20 09:59:45 UTC
When new objects are created in OOo draw no default name is given to them. Therefore, they do not appear in the navigator. To make the objects accessible by the navigator one has to name the object amnually. Since the navigator is very convenient for selection of objects that are positioned behind other objects, it would be very helpful to give them a default name at creation, e.g. Line01, Circle15 ...
Oh thanks for that. But I think I set issue type to defect, that seems to be one. Changed the summary a little bit. Reassigned to Christian.
confirming with 1.1.1 linux build found no similar issue
Thats not a defect but a design decision taken years ago. Draw documents could potentionaly contian a huge amount of drawing objects. The navigator was designed to navigate through contents of a document. It was decided that we don't wan't to have each shape in the navigator, for the same reason the writer does not have each paragraph inside the navigator. Wolfram, please close this issue or convert it to a feature request and send to user expirience
Changed type to feature. Reassigned to Bettina.
okay, the reason not to use the default-object-names in the navigator is acceptable, everything would be overcrowded. however, there must be an info on that in the help-files, and that they are shown when named. But: I believe it is a good idea to have the "grouped" drawing objects with default-names in the navigator, as with the navigator they are much easier to select. Martin
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
ince OOo 3.x in DRAW we have the selector iocn whether only "Named Shapes" or "All Shapes" should be shown in Navigator. So no longer a problem (althouh not fixed), OBSOLETE
