Description khbellgardt 2004-04-27 15:42:05 UTC
At present, the navigator in Draw is very simple. It only shows a list of slides
and all related objects, but does not give any information on layers and objects
belonging groups. More functionality could enhance the working process in draw.

1) The tree view could be extended to include additional levels for layers and
grouped objects as follows:
   -Slide1
      -Level1
          Object2
          -Group1
            Object1
            Object3
          Object4
          +Group3
      +Level2
   +Slide2
   -AllSlides
      -Background
          ObjectXX
          ObjectXY

Then by drag and drop it would be possible to move or copy objects between
slides, layers or groups, or to move objects up an down within a layer, i. e.
bring the to from or back.

Different views of the tree/list could be helpful in different tasks. E.g. a
view such as the present one is convenient to move objects to front or back.
Other views (with different sorting of objects) could then include layers and/or
groups.

2) All objects should be given a default name to appear automatically in the
navigator.

3) A context menu should be added to the navigator for quick selection of slide,
layer or object properties, or for deletion. For renaming of objects also a
long-click would be convenient.

I think the navigator is a very nice and outstanding feature of OOo which is
completely lacking on MS office. Nevertheless, the usability of the navigator
could still be improved a lot and it seems to be far away of its true
possibilities. There were almost no changes in the navigator through all of the
OOo versions. This enhancement request tried to give some suggestion to move
forward. I still think it's worth to keep the issue and take is into
consideration for future versions.

Hello,

The features described above are really missing in OOO 3.2. The usage of the
navigator may merely be improved and will increase the Drawing possibilities far
from current version.

Thank you for your consideration.

PS: instead of object_1 or object_n default name, the navigator may return
line_1, polygon_2, ..., metafile_n, etc... with a link between object selected
on the page and the item selected in navigator. This name may also appear in a
box when mouse passing on it.

Hello,

Issues n°16795, 28420, 29669 and 96488 seem to refer the same or closing
enhancements to the navigator.
I suggest to join all votes on issue n°28422.

Thank you very much.
