Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 28428
enable application buttons (like undo. redo, paste, ...) also for object-editing
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:31:33 UTC
When editing object like charts or formulas from within (for example) the Calc-GUI, the undo and redo buttons are greyed out. Undo and redo only works via the insert menu. I think this is very unintuitive from the user's point of view. I think you should consider to make it possible to use the applications undo and redo buttons also while editing such objects.

This should also be foxed for other the GUI-elements. For example the paste-button does not work while editing formulas. [I have changed the summary.]
"foxed"->"fixed"
(For Drawing objects this seems to be already implemented. But it should be added for other object times like formulas, charts, ...)
typing error: "object times" -> "object types"
I see the same problem with a drawing OLE object embedded in a writer document, using OO.o 1.1.0 under Linux. I'd argue its a defect not a enhancement, since undo is possible, the 'edit ... undo' option has correctly become highlighted, but the undo icon has not. William Smith
Also can you implement "Repeat" in calc charts? For example I changed the X- axis scale of one chart, then I want to do the same on the other chart. In excel you can do this when you press Alt-Y or F4. Here in OO chart I can't. I hope this enhancement(or bug) may be fixed soon in the next OO version release. Thanks

Please consider re-testing with one of the latest versions of OOo and providing an update / further information. Cheers. Lowering Issue priority... From: http://qa.openoffice.org/scdocs/ddIssues_EnterModify.html#priority P2 - Marks severe problems which affect a significant number of customers. Issues with this priority must be fixed before the target release ... and should be dealt with as soon as possible. Not fixing them for the target release is not acceptable.

[Issue type corrected: ENHANCEMENT->DEFECT]
Hi Norbert, I don't want to cause any conflict here, so I appeal to you... How can an Issue that hasn't been touched in 4+ years with NO target, only one vote and no one added to the CC be considered Priority 2?... Please read the Priority info and consider downgrading. http://qa.openoffice.org/scdocs/ddIssues_EnterModify.html#priority Many thanks Andrew
We have some improvement in 2.4.1 and 3.0 Beta I made a quick test with a 3.0 WRITER document and OLE CALC object: Undo / Redo buttons work as expected for the objects, even after other document contents has been modified in between. It looks worse for other objects, for example a rectangle with text contents: It seems that the undo stack for text modifications will be removed after the text mode has been left. But for other modifications of the DRAW object (size, color) the stack remains and works perfectly. So I close this original issue as WFM with 3.0. Of course, my quick test can not grant that everything will work fine for all objects in all OOo modules. So pls. feel free to file new issues if you find new DEFECTS or ENHANCEMENT requests.
