Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 2906
file->open *always* opens a new window
Last modified: 2008-05-17 23:10:28 UTC
Forgive me if this is a dupe, but I did a search and didn't find this anywhere. I know that OpenOffice is trying to be more UNIXy and have different windows for every document and that's fine. However, I have to think that we may have gone a teensy bit too far... Recreation: Open OpenOffice Select File->Open and open a file The new file is opened in a separate window, leaving the original window just sorta hanging there which can be confusing to users and wasteful of resources. I believe it would be better to open the document in the current window when the application is just starting. Later, if the user requests a new file via File->Open, that document can be opened in a new window. Anyway, that's my .02 Thanks David
JA->CJ: seems to be your enhancement request
Reassigned to Bettina.
djoham, this Issue is sure old but you may want to have a look at the present OOo 1.1.0 or 1.1.1b to see whether the problem has been solved. I suppose it is since the first session of OOo now doesn't open with an empty window, if that was ever the case.
pinkernell, I agree that this issue can be closed. When I log into IssueZilla however, I don't seem to have rights to do that. What's up? David
Hi Bettina, I think this issue can be closed. In OOo 1.1.1 the document is opened in the same window if that contained a blank document.
Works in 1.1.4. Closed as worksforme.
The Issue you raised has been marked as 'Resolved' and not updated within the last 1 year+. I am therefore setting this issue to 'Verified' as the first step towards Closing it. If you feel this is incorrect, please re-open the issue and add any comments. As per previous posting: Verified -> Closed. A Closed Issue is a Happy Issue (TM). Regards, Andrew
