Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 29287
End of document Foonotes are numbered based on chapters
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:28:10 UTC
Detailed summary: When using Footnotes, if one chooses "End of document" as the position for the footnotes, then the only option available for numbering is "Document", which makes sense. However the numbering behaves as "Chapter" numbering, not "Document" numbering. How to re-create: * Create a test document as follows: - create a blank document; - type a line of text, mark it as style "Title 1"; - type another line of text, inserting footnotes (using default footnotes settings); - type a line of text, mark it as style "Title 1"; - type another line of text, inserting footnotes; - etc. (two or three "chapters" are sufficient to understand what's happening) * Footnotes are numbered as default, per Page, and located at the end of the page. This is OK. * Check that "Document" numbering works at end of page: go to Tools/Footnotes, select "Document" as numbering but keep Position to "End of page"; the footnotes are then numbered sequentially without regards to the chapter markers (i.e. the lines with "Title 1" style); they are still located at the end of the page. This is OK. * Go back to Tools/Footnotes, change the Position to "End of document"; notice that the Numbering is automatically changed to "Document" in the dialog box. In the document, the footnotes are moved to a separate page at the end of the document (thus matching "Position"), but Numbering exhibits "Chapter" properties. (You will see multiple "1", etc.) * Go back to Tools/Footnotes, notice that the box that was previously marked as Numbering "Document" now says "Page" (in the dialog box). Manually change "Page" to "Document". In the document, the footnotes are still numbered by "Chapter". Conclusion: Position "End of Document" works properly; but when Position "End of Document" is chosen, "Chapter" numbering is used by default with no way to change it. (The fact that the dialog box is not consistent with what is actually done is a secondary problem.)
Confirmed on official Windows 1.1.1 OpenOffice. Also present in NeoOffice/J (MacOSX), which is based on OO 1.0. Seems like a day-one problem.
Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test it/faster to confirm. (Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily/need more time) Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is small, but we still able to see the problem. If your documents is confidential, please change the word/character in your documents, so it is not easy to read. example change all a with o, change i with u, change o with x, change t with l and others. or send it directly to the developer by email mru@openoffice.org
MRU->OS: Dialog Tools.Footnotes: The default for footnote position is "End of Page". When switching to "End of document" and then back to "End of page" the couning switches to "Per Chapter". A little bit inconsistent.
Created attachment 15326 [details] Example file exhibiting the problem for issue 29287. Footnotes, Position "End of Document", Numbering "Document" (as per GUI).

Issue still exist in OOo 2.3.1
