Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 29420
Ellipsis are not recognized as a punctuation mark in spellcheck
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
If you add a custom word to a dictionary, the it is no longer marked as incorrectly spelled. You can add the following quotation marks to a custom word, and it will still be ok: . , ? - -- ! But... you can't add ellipsis.... When you add ellipsis--either three or four--the word is marked as incorrect. Screen shot included. Thanks. m

I notice that you may think this issue is related to issues where you use an ellipsis to omit words from a quotation. Or Modern punction allows all of the following: This is an ellipsis... <<<3 in a row, omitting full stop This is an ellipsis.... <<<4 in a row, including full stop This is an ellipsis . . . <<<3 spaced out, omitting full stop This is an ellipsis . . . . <<<4 spaced out, including full stop This is an ellipsis. . . <<<3 spaced out, omitting full stop, w/o initial space This is an ellipsis. . . . <<<4 spaced out, including full stop, w/o inital space This is an ellipsis... example. << 3 in a row, followed by space This is an ellipsis . . . example. <<3 spaced out evenly This is an ellipsis . . . example. <<3 spaced out evenly, w/ initial space This is an ellipsis [. . .] example. <<3 spaced out surrounded by brackets Ellipsis (three dots) is also produced in mathematics mode using the control sequences \ldots (for dots aligned with tbe baseline of text), and \cdots (for dots aligned with the centreline of mathematical formulae). Most importantly though... in my opinion... is to first fix the three dots in a row. As a writer, I tend to use the is type of punctuation frequently. Microsoft Office allows that, because Modern English grammer allows it. There is no longer a rigid school of thought on the matter (similar to what happened when people stopped automatically including the final comma after the word 'and' in a list of items). Thanks! m
MRU->TL: A word which is added to a custom dictionary and then appaers in the text followed by ..., will not be recognized as correctly spelled by the spellcheck.
