Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 29829
Find&replace handles paragraph marks and line breaks strangely
Last modified: 2013-12-19 13:11:59 UTC
When using find and replace with the regular expressions turned on, finding '\n' and replacing with '\n' will find all line breaks and replace with paragraph marks . I think it should replace with the same thing that it finds .. a line break It is confusing to my users to find paragraph marks with '$' but must use '\n' to represent paragraphs marks in the replace box. Any correction to the above issue should provide an alternative method to specify a paragraph mark in the replace box (using '$' currently doesn't work)
SBA, please evaluate.

While the report presumes that you actually can find & replace line breaks with paragraph breaks (complains about the function being cumbersome) this function actually does not work. "When using find and replace with the regular expressions turned on, finding '\n' and replacing with '\n' will find all line breaks and replace with paragraph marks " - and this is not true.
If you think it is not true, file a seperate issue with detailed explanations on how to reproduce. It works exaclty as described.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
Users should be able to search and replace across paragraph marks (for example, taking out a blank paragraph limited to stipulated paragraph endings and beginnings. E.g. Search for: </p> <p> and replace with: </p> <p> This kind of search and replace is very tedious in OO
