See the attached document. 
The shadow on the "j" is clipped with some fonts. In other fonts it isn't
clipped (although the "j" extends at least as far down the base line with
courier as with Times NR).

MRU->HDU: sometimes you need to do a manual view refresh (Ctrl-Shift-R) to see
th problem. Can be seen with Characters like "j" or "g".

HDU->FME: Do you see problems if if the FontMetric between a normal/shadowed
font differed? Also how do you calculate the clip region? Just Ascent+Descent?
