Description kevinnehls 2004-09-19 02:45:47 UTC
Happens with Writer and Calc

Steps to reproduce.

(assumes you have Word and Excel files are associated with OOo)

- Open Windows Explorer and find a Word or Excel document
- Double-click on it to open the file in OOo
- Click on File > Properties

Crash! :(

This does not happen if you double-click on an OOo file type in Windows Explorer
to open the file in OOo.

Melissa Benua, 9/23/04:

I was unable to duplicate this bug in version 1.1.2 of OOo Calc. I downloaded
the sample spreadsheet and associated .xls files with OOo. However, when I
double-clicked to open the file and went to File->Properties, it did not crash
or appear to give any erroneous information. Additionally, I verified that all
tabs in the properties window appeared to be functioning.

I created my own .xls file in Microsoft Office 2003, closed it, and
double-clicked on the icon for that file from Windows Explorer to open it in
Calc. It still gave the correct output upon checking File->Properties.

These are the steps I took that were unable to reproduce the error:
1) Associated .xls files via right-clicking the file and selecting "Open with..."
2) Selected Open Office 1.1.2 and chose the option to always open the selected
file type with this program.
3) Downloaded sample .xls file
4) Opened Windows Explorer and browsed to the file
5) Double-clicked the file to open it in OOo
5) Went to File->Properties, and clicked on all tabs.

As I stated, everything worked correctly both in this procedure, and a
subsequent procedure where I created my own .xls sheet in Excel 2003 and opened
it in Calc.

My system is as follows:
English Windows XP Pro SP1
Microsoft Office 2003
Athlon XP Processor
1 GB RAM
128 MB ATI Radeon 9500 Video Card
250 GB Hard Drive

I can't reproduce the problem, but I have a suspect... it may be a follow
problem of issue 27107. Sporadically WOrd documents are opened with wrong
document title. So this may also influence behaviour of File.Properties. The
problem will be fixed in 680m55, so please test there again. Thanks a lot!

I was unable to reproduce the bug on the same platform. The procedure that I
used was in detail the same as the one mentioned by Melissa Benua. I followed
the procedure with the attached files as well as with Word and Excel files
that I created myself. However, there was no abnormal behavior of the program
when I clicked on File -> Properties I the file. Furthermore, I tried
executing a number of functions in the opened file and none of them showed any
erroneous results.

Configuration:
Microsoft Office 2003
Windows XP Pro
1.2 GHz AMD Athlon
376 MB
