Open a writer document and insert a picture.

the handles provided to the object for resizing it are not visible.  earlier
there  used to be a green outer box with resizable edges.  Now, it is possible
to resize the object through the ruler by dragging the margins of the object
over there. 

Is it intentional or a fault?

Hm, I cannot see the problem with my OOo 680m56 on Windows.
Did you insert a special format? Or maybe the bug happened do to other things
you did before by selecting objects... could be, that there is a certain way to
generate this bug.

I don't know, whether I have set anything wrong. I used only a jpeg file. But
nothing is around there.
